Orange has partnered with MasterCard to launch a mobile payments app and physical prepaid card in Spain.

Orange Cash enables online purchases and money transfer between Spanish subscribers to the service, as well as proximity payments in stores or restaurants using the MasterCard card.

The operator launched Orange Cash in France last week via a partnership with Visa and offering a slightly different line-up of services.

In Spain, Orange Cash users can make P2P transfer to one another for free, as well as online and physical payments. All the funds come from the same prepaid account.

The app and card are free and users are not required to have a bank account. The service is available to non-Orange subscribers too. The app works with both iOS and Android smartphones.

However, subscribers must pay to add funds to their prepaid Orange Cash account, although the first 5,000 to sign up will receive €10 in their account.
