Orange and partner Barclaycard have announced the upcoming launch of the Samsung Wave 578, the second NFC-based handset for their Quick Tap contactless payment service. The operator says the handset will go on sale “in the coming weeks”. The new handset follows the Samsung Tocco Quick Tap, the first handset to support the partners’ service. The Samsung Wave 578 is based on the vendor’s own Bada operating system.

In a bid to drive interest in Quick Tap, Barclaycard is offering to add £10 to the new account of Orange subscribers who join Quick Tap. In addition, the card provider is offering 10 percent cashback on all purchases made via the NFC service in the first 90 days after activation.  The service works in over 50,000 locations throughout the UK where users can make transactions of up to £15. In addition, Orange is in talks about expanding Quick Tap to handle NFC payments in the transport sector.
