Orange continues to fill out its African mobile money footprint with its plans to launch in Cameroon. Previously, the operator has introduced Orange Money to Kenya, Botswana and Cote I’Ivoire with the initial launch happening in the latter market at the end of October 2009.

Subscribers will be able to dial 150 on their handsets to access the service having first topped up their m-wallet at an Orange shop. Orange Money users will have access to a range of m-banking services including depositing or withdrawing funds from their accounts, P2P transactions, making purchases and paying utility bills.

Orange’s proposed service in Cameroon was approved by the West African States Bank on August 1. The service is a partnership for Orange with the Cameroonian government and the country’s Banque Internationale du Cameroun pour l’Epargne et le Credit , also known as Bicec. Orange signed an agreement with the latter last year to support the launch.
