N26, the German mobile bank whose backers include Peter Thiel and Li Ka-shing, is now available in nine more markets across the Eurozone.

The firm added the Benelux countries, the Baltic states, Finland, Portugal and Slovenia to its roster, according to a presentation made by CEO Valentin Stalf at the Techcrunch Disrupt event in London.

It previously had a presence in eight European countries since a launch in January, 2015; Germany and Austria, then followed by Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Ireland and Slovakia in December 2015.

Stalf mentioned a figure of 200,000 customers  – the same figure it was touting in a July update. However, the business is expecting to grow, having this summer received a banking licence from the European Central Bank and Germany’s financial regulator.

Previously, N26 was forced to rely on German banking tech firm Wirecard (which has a licence) to provide banking services. Now it is free to develop a wider portfolio of its own services.
