MTN ties up with Western Union

12 AUG 2014

MTN Mobile Money subscribers in Cote d’Ivoire can now receive international transfers into their accounts via Western Union.

The two companies are building on an existing relationship in Uganda.

Subscribers to MTN’s money service receive transactions directly on their phones in both Cote d’Ivoire and Uganda.

The new offering is in addition to Western Union’s existing service in Cote d’Ivoire which enables consumers to collect funds at nearly 900 of its locations throughout the country.

MTN is seeing fast growth in its number of mobile money subscribers, albeit from a low base.

The operator saw the number of registered MTN mobile money subscribers go up 24 per cent to 18.4 million during the first six months of 2014
