According to respondents to our online poll the most serious challenge for mobile money before it can become mass market is reassuring users that transactions are secure. Making users feel comfortable that their credit and debit cards are safe during a mobile transaction was chosen as the biggest issue by 40 percent of voters.

The second most significant question to resolve according to respondents is for stakeholders such as mobile operators, banks, credit card firms and internet players, to put aside their differences and build a sustainable ecosystem. This was highlighted by 30 percent of respondents. The next most important challenge was ensuring a steady supply of affordable NFC handsets (20 percent). Interestingly, the least popular option was for mobile money to offer a break with today’s credit and debit cards. Only ten percent of users saw originality of concept as the most pressing issue.
