McDonald’s is testing a mobile app in the same two cities where Isis trialled its NFC-based mobile payments system.

According to Bloomberg, Salt Lake City, Utah and Austin, Texas are being used for the fast food giant’s trial, although it is unclear if there is any link with Isis or whether the McDonald’s trial is assessing NFC.

Mobile World Live asked the question to McDonald’s but has yet to hear back.

However, the app is described as enabling payments. It also allows consumers to place an order via their handset and then collect it from a local restaurant.

The system will also include promotions and a loyalty programme, according to the notes of a June meeting of McDonald’s franchisees and company executives obtained by Bloomberg.
