A new app called MasterCard Nearby advises users where they can make contactless payments, including with the newly-launched Apple Pay.

The app flags up more than 220,000 locations in the US that accept such payments, which are likely to have received a boost with the launch on 20 October of Apple Pay on the new NFC-based iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Currently, customers with credit or debit cards from Bank of America, Capital One, Citi and Wells Fargo can load virtual versions of their cards onto the new iPhones, with other card issuers set to follow suit.

Of course, the MasterCard app will also be of use for other NFC-based handsets, in addition to the new iPhones, and contactless cards.

In addition to information on where you can use your contactless card or handset, MasterCard Nearby also provides details on where cardholders can reload prepaid cards, get cash back with their purchases, or use an ATM.
