Handset vendor LG’s mobile payment service will enter a highly competitive market when it finally launches later this year.

According to ETNews, LG Pay is going to be released in September.

The South Korean vendor, which is pitting itself against the likes of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, was previously going to launch its payment service at this year’s Mobile World Congress but held off to keep attention focused on its flagship G5 smartphone.

At the time, it was reported that LG Pay would be launched in Q2. It now appears its debut has drifted back to Q3.

Samsung Pay has been available in South Korea (likely to be LG’s debut market) since August last year. So LG would be launching 12 months behind.

The latest report appears to confirm a previous suggestion that LG Pay will, in fact, be a physical card. The vendor last week signed a pact with South Korea’s KB Bank to work on the so called White Card.

The report makes no mention of LG Pay being available as a NFC-based service on the vendor’s handsets although the two approaches could co-exist.
