iZettle, the Swedish company that enables small businesses to process payments using an iPhone or iPad, has made its API available to iOS developers so that they can integrate the service within apps.

The company hopes that opening up its API will spread its service beyond the point-of-sale to other locations where its clients might use the iZettle service within their businesses. The Swedish firm notes that US counterpart Square did introduce a similar initiative (although Android-based) in the US but has not developed it further, reports Techcrunch.

Square of course is a pioneer of this type of card reader service but is only present in the US. iZettle meanwhile is attempting to stake out the European market. It has launched in Scandanavia and recently started a trial of its service in the UK.
