Mobile operator MTN-Irancell is working with payments technology firm Etick and local financial institution Bank Pasargad on a NFC system. According to NFC World, the proposed set-up would allow users to top up a prepaid account on their mobile phones from their bank accounts or through a cash deposit at a POS terminal. The kind of payments envisaged for the Iranian system are retail purchases, public transport tickets and goods from vending machines.
