Another contender joined the array of operators in India pursuing the mobile money market – Idea Cellular.

According to Economic Times, the Indian operator launched a mobile wallet which enables users to top up their prepaid mobile account, recharge their digital TV balance, pay utility bills and send money to friends, with more to follow.

The service, which is called Idea Money, launched in Mumbai in July and is to be expanded across India in a gradual process, according to a source who, however, did not share the timeline for reaching pan-India coverage.

Idea is just the latest operator to launch payments and money services, following the likes to Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Tata Teleservices.

Idea Money is a prepaid account offered by Idea Mobile Commerce Services Limited (IMCSL), which has a licence from the Reserve Bank of India to offer this service.
