Google is running a promotion called Tap 10 in the US for Android Pay, which offers inducements to frequent users of the payment service.

According to a number of sources, including Android Central, the search giant is giving out rewards including songs, films and subscriptions from Google Play or a free Chromecast if users make ten purchases via Android Pay before the end of February.

There are a number of requirements, for instance users must make purchases at least five minutes apart so ruling out a quick-fire approach to hitting the ten purchases. Also, once a credit or debit card is set up in Android Pay, users should see a welcome screen for the promotion. However, reports say not every user sees this screen, indicating this is a limited promotion. And once a user hits ten rewards, they are not eligible for future rewards.

In the US, adding rewards to Android Pay may prove necessary to lure users away from the habit of swiping conventional cards and towards contactless payments with their mobile device. At present Android Pay is only available in the US. In other markets where contactless is already well established, then rewards could act as an incentive that sways them to a mobile payment service, such as Android Pay.
