eBay and its PayPal unit have launched X.commerce, a platform that enables developers to target retailers with applications suitable for mobile, online, and social commerce. The new platform is heavily based on recent acquisitions by eBay including mobile payments firm Zong and RedLaser, whose app enables smartphones to scan goods in stores. The newest version of the RedLaser app will let users pay for the products they have scanned. eBay unveiled the X.commerce platform at its Innovate Developer Conference 2011 in San Francisco.

French firm Tagattitude used the Innovate event to announce NFC2.O, its technology that enables contactless mobile payment across any network using any smartphone or OS. The technology is app-based and does not require a chip or NFC phone, the company says.

Finally, eBay unveiled PayPal Access that simplifies registration for users shopping across multiple online sites and an alliance with Facebook that will see the latter’s Open Graph functionality integrated into applications developed with eBay.
