Deutsche Telekom has chosen Wirecard, a German vendor, to supply some of the mobile payment services the operator will launch with MasterCard in its European markets starting this year.

The vendor will put in place the technical processes so that the German operator can issue a MasterCard-backed card starting on a trial basis in its home market later this year. Wirecard will process payments for Deutsche Telekom and will also support the operator’s mobile wallet launch in Germany next year.

It is unclear if the agreement between the two companies extends outside Germany to other European markets where Deutsche Telekom and MasterCard are launching services, including Poland. The operator is using a combination of its own MasterCard pre-paid card, handsets and stickers (both based on NFC) to reach subscribers with its mobile payments service.
