VIDEO INTERVIEW: Large retailers are reluctant to spend huge amounts on mobile money solutions anytime soon but remain keen to determine how the technology can benefit their business. So said Tomasz Smilowicz – global head of mobile solutions at Citi Transaction Services – when asked by Mobile World Live to cast his eye over mobile money prospects in the retail sector.

Retailers, he added, are wary of the “complex and extensive integration” effort required to link their CRMs and other systems to mobile payment solutions.

Smilowicz nonetheless reported growing interest in NFC and mobile payments among Citibank’s institutional clients. And retailers, he observed, are keen to explore solutions in the short term – as long as they don’t require heavy and expensive lifting on integration.
