Capital One is dropping out of the NFC-based mobile payments pilot being run by Isis, the venture backed by three of the largest US mobile operators, according to NFC World.

The card issuer is one of four financial institutions that has been part of the Isis trial but said that its participation in the pilot is coming to an end.

It claimed to have gained “valuable insights” from those users who participated. And it added: “We continue to engage with Isis on the future of mobile payments.”

However it made no mention of whether it will participate in Isis’s nationwide rollout later this year. The pilot is in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Austin, Texas.

The other financial partners in the pilot are Amex, Barclaycard and Chase. Amex and Chase have both said they will participate in the nationwide deployment.
