As expected, the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) has ordered Safaricom to open its network of 85,000 M-Pesa agents to rivals.

Kenya’s dominant operator already pre-emptively removed exclusivity arrangements for its agents ahead of CAK delivering its directive.

The anti-trust authority wrote to both Safaricom and rival Airtel, which bought the complaint, reported the Daily Nation.

The directive must be implemented by 18 July.
