Braintree, the mobile and online payments firm set to be acquired by PayPal in a high-profile deal, has brought its service to the UK, with other European countries to follow in the coming months.

The UK launch comes with assistance from American Express, which is taking the role of exclusive marketing partner for the launch of Braintree’s Venmo Touch app in the UK.

Amex will offer targeted marketing to its members via newsletters, social media and digital banner ads.

The role of Amex is interesting given Braintree’s new parent PayPal is a rival to the credit card giant in the mobile payments market.

Venmo Touch enables users to save their payment details in one app and then checkout across all the merchants with which Braintree works. Its customers include HotelTonight, Fab, Airbnb, LivingSocial and Uber
