The maker of a new wristband which uses a customer’s heartbeat for authenticating identity across a range of devices says it will also keep their stash Bitcoins safe.

The Nymi wristband developed by Canadian startup Bionym uses a Bluetooth signal to transmit a user’s heartbeat to smartphone, PC and car as alternative to a key or password. According to Techcrunch, the device will also ship with a Bitcoin wallet app.

The Nymi will act as a private key that is stored independently of any smartphone or PC but instead tied to a user’s biometric signature.

Even if the wristband is stolen the thief won’t be able to access the user’s supply of Bitcoins, the company claims.

Bionym has not disclosed a launch date for the device, which will cost $79, although its appearance is due early in 2014.
