Beeline, Russia’s third largest operator, developed a service that enables its subscribers to withdraw cash from their prepaid airtime balances using bank ATM machines, according to Vedomosti.

The operator claims the service, which is called Money.Beeline, is a first for the Russian market.

The service works through a link-up with Ruru, a mobile payment venture that was set up by Beeline parent Vimpelcom and Russia’s Alfa-Bank in 2011.

Withdrawals are enabled by subscribers sending an SMS to a premium-rate number.

The bank aims to stack up agreements with 15 large banks by the end of 2015. The service will be tested with 1,000 ATMs initially. The target deployment is to reach 37,000 ATMs across the country by the end of the year.

The daily limit for withdrawals is RUB 5,000 ($76) initially with a monthly limit of RUB 40,000. The plan is to give users leeway for bigger withdrawals later.
