During WWDC, Apple SVP Craig Federighi outlined how Apple Pay will launch in France, Hong Kong and Switzerland “in the next few months”, as well as debuting for Mac users on the web.

The three countries will be in addition to the six markets where Apple Pay is currently available: US, UK, Canada, Australia, China and Singapore.

Orange also announced that Apple Pay is coming to Orange Cash, its prepaid wallet, in France later this year.

The operator added that “more than 200,000 Orange customers have already used Orange Cash”, which launched in 2013. It is currently available to users of NFC-based Android smartphones.

Visa announced that its cardholders from participating banks in France and Switzerland will be able to use Apple Pay. And MasterCard said cardholders in Hong Kong will be able to use Apple Pay. The card giant is working with card issuers, including BOC Credit Card, DBS Bank, Hang Seng Bank, HSBC, Standard Chartered and The Bank of East Asia.

Apple Pay on the web
At present, Apple Pay is available for NFC-based proximity payments, as well as in-app purchases. Federighi announced that Mac users will be able to use the Safari browser to make web purchases.

The advantage of this approach is not having to share debit or credit card numbers with online merchants. Instead users look for a Apple Pay button on participating websites. The transaction is then completed by using Touch ID on the user’s iPhone or by using their Apple Watch. “Many, many merchants are signed up to bring their storefronts to Apple Pay on the web,” said Federighi.
