LINE launches “powerful” Android group calling app

08 JUN 2015

LINE Corp added another app to its portfolio, Popcorn Buzz, which lets Android users make group calls of up to 200 participants for free.

“Popcorn Buzz offers powerful group call functionality… a perfect replacement for existing paid business-grade conference call services,” the company said in a statement.

“For users that need to talk to multiple people at once, Popcorn Buzz accommodates both personal and business usage, all for free,” it added.

Each group call has a unique URL that can be sent out via email or text message for users who want to join in and calls can be made over WiFi, 3G, and 4G networks.

An iOS release is also planned, “along with the implementation of additional features such as group video chat, interconnectivity with LINE groups, and more in the future.”

LINE says it wants to “redefine the limits of smartphone communication in a way that has never been done before”.

Last month it said it is trialling a free music streaming app in Thailand while other apps under its belt include payment and taxi-hailing titles.

Jeanie Han, CEO of LINE Euro-Americas, told Mobile World Live in March that the company, with around 65 apps with 800 million downloads under its banner in addition to its core messaging app, is working hard in its efforts to be a “Life platform”.
