Zambia has ended its ban on the entry of new mobile operators as the country looks to increase competition and improve service, reports Reuters. The ban came into force in 2009 due to concerns that there were too many operators in the market. A government minister said there is now a need for a fourth operator in addition to MTN, Airtel Zambia and state-run Zamtel. According to Wireless Intelligence, Zambia has approximately 10 million connections and a mobile penetration rate of 73 percent, suggesting potential room for growth.
