Vivo announces shutdown for CDMA network

Leading Brazilian mobile operator Vivo says it will close its older cellular network based on CDMA technology in September this year. It has not disclosed how many customers are still on the CDMA network. Those remaining will be offered a preferential deal on a GSM handset to persuade them to switch networks. Vivo originally announced its switchover from CDMA to GSM technology in June 2006.
