US operator Verizon last week announced an equity investment in Nanthealth, a US firm that is developing health services based on a combination of mobile devices, cloud computing and fibre network technology. The scale of the investment was not disclosed.

The health firm said linking up with Verizon gave it national scale as well as access to the operator’s backbone network. The investment is not so much of a surprise given Verizon announced a strategic relationship earlier this year with Nantworks, the parent of Nanthealth. Furthermore, Vodafone, a 45 percent shareholder in Verizon Wireless, signed a MoU with Nantworks in 2011.
