The US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is looking for a platform that is capable of handling up to 100,000 smartphones and tablets. The VA has published a Request for Information whose purpose is to find vendors who can supply “a national mobile device management solution” which can handle as many as 100,000 mobile devices. The RFI is a further sign of a shift towards a more mobile strategy by the VA. At the start of this month, the organisation started to allow employees to use their own devices at work so long as they were iPhones or iPads, reports GovernmentHealthIT. And this followed comments by CIO of the VA Roger Baker that the organisation would like to develop its own app store. He hoped some of the apps would come from the VA-funded open source electronic health record software project.
