The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) will award US$30 million in grants to projects in 34 US states and one territory under its distance learning and telemedicine (DLT) programme which supports both health and education projects.

The USDA announcement does not break out how much goes to health. There are a total of 100 health and education projects receiving backing. It’s possible to pick out a few individual projects and see how much funding they have received. For instance,  a hospital in Iowa will receive a US$263,0000 grant to install videoconferencing equipment that will connect its emergency room, outpatient and inpatient centres with local schools and nursing homes.
