Two existing Hong Kong operators and one new entrant have secured blocks of spectrum in the 2.3Ghz band to use for LTE services. The Office of Telecommunications Authority announced that 90Mhz of spectrum has been awarded for a 15 year period in return for a total of HKD470 million. China Mobile secured 30Mhz of spectrum for HKD170 million while Hutchison’s 3 and new entrant 21 ViaNet acquired the same amount of spectrum for HKD150 million. Hong Kong Telecommunications took part in the auction but failed to secure spectrum.
