Africa’s largest fixed-line operator Telkom said it would take at least two years to refocus the company in South Africa after selling its mobile unit Vodacom, reports Reuters. As part of its strategy, Telkom is expanding its data business to offer fully converged services. It is also rolling out a fixed-wireless network, where customers can use mobile phones within a restricted area, and is selectively building mobile base stations. The company expects to launch commercial trials for its own mobile service by the fourth quarter of 2009.
