Telkom South Africa is reported to be planning the sale of its Multi-Links mobile business in Nigeria, in order to stabilise its business activities and to enable it to seek growth elsewhere. Reuters reports that Multi-Links has proved to be a gamble on the wrong technology, because of its selection of CDMA over the GSM networks which have been prevalent elsewhere on the continent. Telkom recently launched its own mobile network in South Africa, having sold its stake in Vodacom to Vodafone Group, with reports stating that 186,000 subscribers had signed for the new 8ta service in the first month.
