Dow Jones Newswires reports that the local units of Spain’s Telefonica and Mexico’s America Movil will maintain their plans to invest a total of US$205 million in Ecuador this year to improve services, technology and coverage. Alfredo Escobar, president of Porta Celular, the local unit of America Movil, said that the company will invest about US$120 million in Ecuador during 2009. Hernan Ordonez, vice president of Movistar, the local unit of Telefonica, said the company will invest about US$85 million. Meanwhile, mobile number portability is expected to start in the country this October.
