Telecom New Zealand claims to have signed up over 200,000 subscribers to its new XT network based on HSPA technology, notes Dow Jones Newswires. The operator launched the network in May and was previously a CDMA operator. Meanwhile, the operator today made an offer to the country’s regulator to sharply reduce its mobile call rates. Telecom’s proposal, which is part of the operational separation plan agreed with the New Zealand Commerce Commission, would see the rate drop by a total of 62 percent over five years for both mobile-to-mobile and fixed-to-mobile calls.
