Telecom New Zealand said that it is “well positioned to thrive” if the acquisition of TelstraClear by Vodafone New Zealand goes ahead – a transaction announced earlier this week. In a statement, Chris Quin, Telecom’s CEO, said: “in mobile, we are confident that in the [3G/HSPA+] Smartphone Network we have the superior proposition, and in broadband we are the market leader with a strong focus on bringing compelling residential fibre products to market soon”. He also noted: “we also know how distracting major transactions such as Vodafone’s can be at both a regulatory and local execution level, and it is not a done deal yet.”
