It was widely reported that T-Mobile USA is set to end support for its Sidekick devices from the end of May 2011, switching off a set of cloud-based services which are integral to the device’s performance. Originally created by Danger, this company was later acquired by Microsoft, which then created the short-lived Kin social networking devices. The Sidekick service was also hit by a major outage in 2009, which wiped personal data from a number of subscribers.
