US number three operator Sprint Nextel has carried out a reorganisation of its structure with four executives set to leave the company as a result, reports Reuters.

A memo from Sprint CEO Dan Hesse seen by Reuters said the business and consumer sales and marketing divisions are to be merged. Head of business operations Paget Alves becomes chief sales officer and will take charge of consumer sales, while Bill Malloy will head up the marketing for business and consumer services.

As a result of the changes, head of customer services Bob H. Johnson, head of consumer marketing John Carney and Chris Rogers, a senior executive who worked on corporate development and spectrum, will all leave the company. President of integrated solutions Danny Bowman is also departing, with head of Sprint’s wholesale business Matt Carter taking his responsibilities.

Hesse said the changes were an effort to simplify the company and take into account the fact that many businesses are now becoming more flexible about the phones employees use for work, with personal phones now being allowed in many cases. "As the wireless market has evolved, the lines between consumers and businesses have blurred," Hesse said in the memo.

Sprint said more organisational changes will take place over the next few weeks but spokesman Scott Sloat told Reuters that the reshuffle did not indicate that a major round of job cuts was on the cards.
