US number-three operator Sprint Nextel has deployed its first multi-mode base station in Branchburg, New Jersey as part of its Network Vision project. The base station works in both 1.9Ghz and 800Mhz spectrum bands and has been fully integrated with the operator’s existing network.  Network Vision aims to consolidate multiple network technologies into one seamless network to increase efficiency and improve network coverage, call quality and data speeds. The project, which is expected to cost between US$4 billion to US$5 billion, will see LTE rolled out on the 1.9Ghz band, supported by CDMA 3G services on the 800Mhz band.
