Reuters reports that Softbank, Japan’s third-largest mobile operator, outran rivals NTT Docomo and KDDI in the number of net new subscribers it signed up in August, after relinquishing its lead in July to Docomo. Softbank, which supplies Apple’s iPhone in Japan, said it signed up 115,100 new subscribers minus cancellations, while market-leader Docomo said it grabbed 112,900 and number two KDDI took 77,800.
