InformationWeek reports that a survey by research firm Nielsen found that 55 percent of handsets sold in the US between March and May 2011 were smartphones, marking the first time that these devices have outsold featurephones in the country. In the same period in 2010, 34 percent of mobile phones sold were smartphones. Android remains the most popular platform in terms of “raw adoption.”
