The smartphone sector is set to experience rapid growth, according to leading software player Symbian Foundation and semiconductor vendor Marvell. Reuters reports that sales of smartphones are set to grow 12-15 percent in 2009, according to Lee Williams, chief of the Symbian Foundation, whilst Marvell chief executive Sehat Sutardja expects smartphones to account for at least 50 percent of all mobile phones in the next three to four years, and grow even more popular in the following years. Such forecasts build on recent growth in the sector (see lead story, top left).
