South Korean number one operator SK Telecom reported increased revenue but lower net income for 2011 compared to the previous year. Revenue was up 2.2 percent at KRW15.95 trillion (US$14.25 billion) while net income was down 10.4 percent at KRW1.58 trillion. The operator attributed the reduced net income to increased investment in its network and the cost of acquiring additional spectrum. “Although faced with challenges such as slow down of revenue growth caused by mobile tariff cuts and the rise of new types of business models, SK Telecom successfully commercialized LTE service and secured 1.8GHz spectrum in 2011, thus laying a solid foundation to become a leader in the data service competition," said Ha Sung-Min, President and CEO.
