Google CEO Eric Schmidt says that “about 200,000” smartphones based on the company’s Android operating system are currently being activated each day, reports Reuters, up from the average 160,000 phones activated each day during the second quarter of 2010. The Symbian Foundation recently said that figures from Canalys indicate that “almost 300,000” Symbian OS devices are shipping daily, indicating the significant progress Android has made in relation to the smartphone market leader.
