US operators T-Mobile USA, Sprint Nextel and MetroPCS, the Rural Telecommunications Group and the Rural Cellular Association and satellite broadcaster DirecTV have all requested the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) investigate Verizon Wireless’ proposed acquisition of spectrum from a consortium of cable companies. The majority of the companies requested the FCC to suspend and reset the 180-day transaction clock on the deal until greater disclosure has been provided by the parties concerned. MetroPCS submitted a separate filing requesting the FCC to acquire more information on how the spectrum will be used and “the competitive impact of the transaction on the roaming and backhaul markets.”
