Apple is set to pick Qualcomm as the supplier of baseband chips for its next-generation iPhone device, displacing incumbent supplier Infineon, according to reports originating in the Chinese press. It was suggested that this will pave the way for Apple to offer both CDMA and WCDMA variants of the iPhone, using variants of the same processors from Qualcomm. Infineon, which has supplied all previous-generation iPhone devices, recently sold its cellular products business to Intel.
