Dow Jones Newswires reports that Russian state-owned conglomerate Rostekhnologii is to approach Huawei, Samsung and “other companies” about the possibility of creating a “4G” network equipment joint venture in the country. The potential business would include Ruselectronics, a subsidiary of Rostekhnologii, which would provide half of the investment needed and contribute facilities in the country. In addition to providing products for the domestic market, it could create kit for export.

The news comes shortly after it was announced that Russia’s four main operators are to work with Yota to create a joint LTE network, which will create a demand for infrastructure equipment in the country. According to Dow Jones, Rostekhnologii also currently owns 25 percent of Yota, which is set to rollout its network to cover 180 cities with a total population of more than 70 million by 2014.
