Nokia plans to deploy the Maemo OS software for future smartphones, replacing Symbian, according to the Financial Times Deutschland, notes Telecompaper. Maemo was developed for use in Nokia’s Internet Tablets, is license-free and the first Maemo-based smartphone will reportedly launch within a couple of weeks. However, MBB believes the move is highly unlikely in light of Nokia’s EUR264 million acquisition of Symbian last year amid plans to move the Symbian software into the Symbian Foundation.
