Report: Kindle Fire redirecting Android Market requests to Appstore

19 DEC 2011

The Verge said that Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet includes modifications to prevent users from viewing Google’s Android Market, with requests instead routed to its own Amazon Appstore.

The online retailer’s tablet device uses a modified version of Android, but does support apps built for the platform. However, any requests made to market.android.com are redirected to its own store, rather than customers being able to install apps from the main Android Market.

The report said that the redirect affects users however they attempt to access the Google store, whether using Amazon’s own Silk browser or through another third-party browser.
