Qualcomm claims to have filed the two millionth international patent application under WIPO’s Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Launched in 1978, the PCT aims to make it easier for companies and inventors to seek patent rights in multiple countries. A single international patent application under the PCT has legal effect in all 142 countries bound by the treaty.  Last year alone Qualcomm filed 1,677 applications with the PCT, making it the third-largest user of the system. Other major mobile backers include Huawei, LG, Nokia, Motorola and Samsung.
