Qualcomm and Ericsson have worked together to complete the first voice call handover from LTE to a 3G WCDMA network. The duo in December successfully performed a voice handover based on the 3GPP-standardised functionality Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) technology, using an Ericsson network and a handset integrated with Qualcomm’s 3G/LTE multimode processor. The test is seen as a key milestone in the development of future commercial VoLTE (Voice-over-LTE) services as seamless switching between network types is essential for when phone users move out of LTE coverage areas.
