Qatar number one operator Qatar Telecom (Qtel) has no plans to make further overseas acquisitions in the short term, reports Arabian Business. Qtel CEO Nasser Marafih told the Middle-East news publication that overpriced assets are the main limiting factor but that there will be opportunities in the future as the industry consolidates in two or three years’ time. The company will for now focus on plans to invest in 3G licences in markets where it already operates 2G services, although Marafih added that Qtel remains interested in mobile licences in Syria and Libya, subject to the political situation in those countries.
